Effect of Longitudinal Forces on the Risks of Empty Car Derailment by L. A. Muginshtein, Yu. S. Romen
Abstracts: The effect of longitudinal force values on the risk of car derailment is observed in terms of train movement at speeds near the starting-up level of diverging lateral vibrations. It was found that longitudinal forces starting from 30 t may become dangerous due to loss of empty car stability against wheel mounting on the rail when hunting.

A Model and Methods for Macroeconomic Evaluation of the Mass of Commodities in Transit by B. M. Lapidus, D. A. Macheret
Abstracts: The macroeconomic aspect of evaluation of the mass of commodities in transit is observed. A model and methods for such evaluation are proposed with a calculation pattern given to illustrate their use. Ways to improve the macroeconomic effect of transportation are substantiated.

Field Measurements’ Data Processing of Longitudinal Forces in Freight Trains Using Polynomial Smoothing Method by I. A. Yabko
Abstracts: The paper tackles Savitzky — Golay (SG) filter based polynomial smoothing method as a noise cleaning means of data obtained by field measurements of longitudinal dynamic forces in freight trains. The author gives reasons for preference of SG-filter as related to cleaning field data at a pre-processing stage and obtains analytic expressions enabling definition of optimum filter parameters.

Simulation Technique of Traction Unit Movement in Traction and Braking Modes by V. M. Kondrashov
Abstracts: There is represented and illustrated with calculation example in practice simulation technique of self-powered vehicles’ movement in traction and braking modes, allowing to study and evaluate their dynamic properties independent of the number of axles and operating mode of traction drive.

Potential Satellite Technology Contributions to Railway Operations Management and Safety Promotion by V. A. Gapanovich, V. I. Umansky
Abstracts: The paper represents conceptual design of the ST-aided Automated Process Management Systems (ASU-TP) intended for use on railways. There are indicated JSC RZD core activities suitable for ST support and offered modifications of technological basis of different functions due to introduction of ST-provisions. Also rough estimate is offered of the scope of ST provisions applications in the JSC RZD and respective demand of resources.

Methods for Defining Fracture Toughness of Full-profile Rails by M. A. Gorbunov
Abstracts: Patterns for calculating fracture toughness of full-profile rails bench tested on fatigue and crack resistance are presented in relation to the finite-element model of the defected rail with a transverse edge crack.

Abstracts: Calculation procedure is offered for defining energy consumption related to locomotive operation and train hauling purposes. Grade computations supported opportunities of rational integrating and linking-up diesel locomotive equipment are represented relying upon basic fuel utilization efficiency indicators.
